Has anyone had any experience loading bermuda grass hay with a bale wagon? I tried today, and ended up hauling 400 bales in by hand. I cannot seem to get the loader to pick-up the bales properly. I though it may have been the bales, so I shortend the bales, and increased the tension on the chamber, but it didn't help. When the loader picks up the bale, it will not lay it onto the first table. Or it will hang up in the loader. Has anyone had any luck with one of these machines in bermuda grass hay?..... Thanks

Craig,
It has been some time since I have run a bale wagon and for me it was oat hay that gave some problems. Be sure that the chain in the bale chute is tight and that the chain just clears the ground. If the bale will not start up the chute let another one hit it the the pressure of 2 bales it will go up the chute. If it start up the chute (90 degrees to the ground) pick the chute up and set it down on top of the next bale and it has no choice but to hit the second table, gravity will see to that. Hope this helps. Bud

Craig: I used to have a 1012 wagon and we're about 1000 miles from bermuda grass country. I did, however run it in everything from trefoil hay to barley straw to cornstalks. I think you've covered your baler work. They must be snug, square and uniform. The biggest thing I found was to follow the baler exactly. If the baler went south on this round and north on that round, go those ways. Go against the baler and it just plain wouldn't work and Yes, they hung on the loader, would not go across the first table, etc. Worth a try? Good Luck. They are as slick as grease when they work and another @#$%^&*( when they don't.

One more thought: I had the quarterturn chute on the baler turned to drop on the outside of the baler.

I think the quarter turn bale chute on the baler would be an absolute neccesity. I can't imagine my 1002 would work with the bales lying wide side down. Also, lower your pickup so it just skims the ground. The set-up the operators book calls for just won't work for me. I've never worried about which way I drove when I picked them up. It seems to work equally well in either direction for me.

Another thing I've done that may help: spray the inside of the pickup chute down with slip plate. Another thing: maybe the nubs on your pickup chain and first table chain are just worn down too much. Is the pickup drive belt tight and not slipping?

I AM RUNNING A 1010 NEW HOLLAND. WE HAVE FOUND THAT YOU HAVE TO KEEP THE LOOSE HAY BUILD UP UNDER THE FIRST TABLE CLEANED OUT. IT CAUSES THE TABLE TO RIDE UP AND THE CHAIN WONT GRAP THE BALE. IT ALSO TOOK A WHILE TO FIGURE OUT WHICH SET OF HOLES TO USE ON THE FLAPPER PIECE ON THE LOADING CHUTE. THE PUSH OVER ROD TOOK A WHILE ALSO TO GET ADJUSTED. THE ONLY THINGS THAT GIVE ME TROUBLE NOW IS LIGHT STRAW AND SPONGY GRASS BALES. GOOD TIGHT ONES FEED JUST FINE
