If you have a stump it's too late now. In the future, consider this. I have put too many final drives in dozers picking at stumps. Tore up a decent back-hoe. Nowadays I got an old straight frame inexpensive payloader. As long as the tree ain't dead & theres no worry of getting killed from falling limbs, I bring the ole payloader over, hit the tree at about 6-7 feet up with the bucket & between the lift & the push the old girl generates, tree falls over. THEN I cut it up....

The other two posts are both good advice. Here is another alternative. Bild a fire on top of the stumps and burn them into the ground. We don't have any walnut trees here but I have burnt a many red fir stumps out by putting a 55 gal. barrel with both ends cut out, over them and building a good fire in it. It usually takes a couple days but it does not cost much either. It will work just fine. Hope this helps, Snuffy

If you are going to be digging foundations and such in there... I'd get the bigger machine in, dig 'em out and be done with it.

Be aware you are gonna have some craters left and will need to re-grade anyway so you might get somebody who can do it all at once.

Depending on size/rootstock grafting etc, those black walunut stumps could be worth some money to the hardwood people. Might pay for the job.

They use them for fancy gunstock blanks and such.

Just 2 cts worth here.

Would a stump grinder work for you?, especially in conjuction with your machine. I saw an add somewhere not too long ago for one, but have been unable to find it. Maybe someone else can give that to you.
