How does one dig a streight hole with a post hole digger? Mine keep curving toward the tractor.

If its on a backhoe make sure your extended out 1/2 way or so then all you have to do is boom in or out. Some guys w/try to find a area on the drill head where they can strap a torpedo level or round level type so they can see it from the cab. hope it helped.

Set the auger point on the ground where you want it and then pull forward a little bit. That way when the auger goes down it will tend to straighten up. If it goes at angle you can always pull forward or back up as needed like F14 suggested.

Perfectly straight is near on impossible, at least in my experience, and I've dug a few.

I do find that after digging the first foot or so, I need to inch the tractor forward a bit to keep the auger vertical. As the boom lowers, it describe a slight arc, which causes the hole to angle toward the tractor if you don't compensate for it by moving the tractor.

F14 is correct. I leave the brake on and slightly move forward a couple times to get the holes straight.
