Two-bottom #52 JD plow, what's up,?

Our local JD club had an auction after the last meeting. There was an "M" with straight tin, recent paint, a sickle bar, wheel weights and a wagon load full of parts for the sickle bar. The tractor ran good, and somoked just a little. This tractor did not bring the reserved price of $2000.
But there was a #51 single bottom plow that was in very "rustic" conditon with one of the hubs missing off the wheel that brought $225! I thought I had hit the jackpot because just last week I had bought 2 #52s out of a junkyard for $100 for the pair. When I told my fellow members about them, they acted like they didn't hear me...no interest whatsoever. The only explanation I got for the disparity was that the single bottom plows were much rarer. It seems hard to believe that there could be that much difference. Is there any value in these plows at all or did I just buy 2 nice lawn ornaments for $100? (They do have some value to me, they are the same vintage as my '41 "B" and will look good cleaned up and being pulled behind it).

I saw the same basic deal at a sale too. A 2 bottom just like mine I thought about buying for parts until it brought $240. Came complete with a tree and bent parts. Not sure what model number they are but were supposedly first tractor plows John Deere made. I bought the one I use for fifteen dollars and at the time didn't think I would pay more.

Gary, you did real good. I use a Model 52 that's been whacked off and a three point adapted so it fits a catagory 1. I hope yours are complete with coulters and tailwheels. The shares and beams are made of extremely tough alloy steel.

Gary, It seems to be where you are or what day it is or something, I've seen #52 plows go pretty high. I'd say you did good when you drug them home. John Deere isn't making any more of them and some day somebody will want one of yours for lots more than $50. Bob
