Two cups=1 pint, two pints =1 quart, 4 quarts = 1 peck, 4 pecks =1 bushel. Mrs Khoeler made me learn that at S.S.# 3 HAY in 1956 and I have never forgotten, now here in Canada we use metric and I had to learn S.I. (system international or metric) Oh, for those good old days!!! now its grams , kilograms and tonnes which is 2250 lbs so metric tonnes and tons don't equate , like anything we get used to it.Mike in Exeter Ontario

If your selling apples, you will find that a
bushel will weigh just about 40 pounds.
So a peck is 10 pounds.
We have weighed half buskels and they rarely,
even heaped, weigh more than 20 pounds.
If you fill a paper grocey bag, full to the top
you will have close to 30 pounds.

I agree with paul. 60 pound oats! Is there some new variety that I am not aware of? If so, where can I get some seed?

I have never seen 60 lb oats! Legally it is 32 lbs to the bushel, but can be over 40 lbs if it's real good - can be 26 or so too if you have a bad year. I believe my coop docks if the oats is under 36 lbs to the bushel test weight.

Corn is 56, soybeans & wheat is 60, but depending on the quality it can be hard to achieve those legal descriptions.

Big Dog is correct , four pecks equal one bushel.
Oats are 32 lbs./bushel , barley is 48 , corn is 56 , soys and wheat are 60 , clovers and alfalfa are 60 as well. One of the best sources for older measurements like pecks , rods , chains etc. is the old John Deere "Farmer's Pocket Ledgers" that can be picked up at flea markets and tractor shows.
