How many different models of sickle mowers did JD make and which ones would fit a late B? Also, any good links to pics to see the difference between them?

The #37 is a good one, and still easy to get all parts for using one today as a matter of fact. Good luck. PS keep it sharp and the gards in good shape.

Ed,

The #5 mower was made during the "B" era. There were alot of #5 mowers made, so finding one shouldnt be too hard. They are a very good mower. I use one behind my '49 A. Some other pull type mowers would be the #8 or 8W(the W meaning wide for wide tread tractors), and the #37 ( I think). If you have a 3pt on your B, some mowers to consider would be the #9 or 9W, #39(again I think ), and the #350 mower. Any of these should work on your B, and all are pretty good mowers. Good Luck
Ziggy

The #5 is a great mower and shares some parts with the later #8. Will work well as long as sickle is sharp, rock guards adjusted, lead and register is set right. I suggest you get an operators manual and parts book for it from JD. really helps to keep it working right. Then you just have to get the right mounting. On the b I would imagine the "quick tatch" was available. In the parts book for the #5 it shows brackets for attaching them to most JDs of the era as well as most other makes of tractor.
