I have been looking for a PULL-TYPE sickle mower to hook onto the drawbar on one of my WD Allis's. I have seen several snap coupler and three points out there, but that's not what I am looking for. Did Allis Chalmers make a PULL-Type sickle mower? What models are there? Where can a guy find one? I live in Nebraska and really don't want to go too far out of state to get one if I don't have to. Willing to spend $250 or so or less of course. Thank you all. :-)

We used to have 6' David Bradley pull type. Had pneumatic, car sized tires and a breakaway hitch. Welded steel frame, so it would survive the many rocks that impacted the sickle bar. We used to put snow chains on the tires and balast it with bags of dirt to get through heavy hay. Never saw another one like it.

B.C., I just bought an old David Bradley like you described. It needs a lot of work but looks like it can reasonably be returned to usable condition. Any idea where I can get a manual for it?

No clue. Sears might worth a try but it must be 30 or 40 years since those things were built, and that is just my guess. Sears used to sell fairly big implements via catalog back in the '50's and it's my guess that's when they were built.

Good luck with it, as I recall that was about the best pull type ground driven mower we ever had. We used to destroy a Deere or McCormick horse mower every year or so by hooking them on rocks. The cast iron frames could not stand up to a 9N. And, yes, we were being careful, but the rocks always seemed to win.

I have New Idea Model 251, 7' pull-type sickle bar mower that I use with my Farmall H. It is a real good mower and easy to work on when needed (not often). Something along this line would be a good bet for you. It takes a lot less HP to pull a trailer type sickle, also. BTW, I only paid $150.00 for it a farm equipment auction.

I bought a rake from a fellow in southwest Iowa last year and he had a pull-type Allis mower. It was a trailer unit with two wheels that hooked to the drawbar like any other implement. I just put an ad on Successful Farming's want-ad site, (www.agriculture.com) you might try that since that guy reads it and he may want to sell the mower he has. Try the want ads on this site too.
