Does anyone have any experience with Internation 990 Haybines. I would like to get all International Equipment to farm with, but I don't know if the International Haybines were any good, and what exactly to look for. Any help would be appreciated.

Keep the knifehead VERY tight and well lubed. If it is worn and/or loose, it will start to pound and you will have a broken knife. EVERY 990 I have ever seen has had this problem and that's from over the years working at an IH shop, JD and New Holland shops when the 990's were nearly given away to get something else.

Carp I just finished mowing for the second year with my 7' 990. I got it cheap and it works quite well. It seems to take a little more power to run than the NH haybines I have used, but runs fine with as little as 32 hp. I am not a big IH fan, and I have been told the 1190's are not very good but I am very happy with my old 990. It will mow clean at speeds of close to 5 mph, which is too fast in my rock infested fields. Hope this helps. Roy

I had an IH 990 9' haybine for about 16 years. They are a low cost machine and will cut well. They aren't quite as nice as the New Holland machines, but then again you won't pay as much. The 990's are fairly simple to fix and there are enough of them around so parts are available.
