To boldly mow where no man has mowed before...

I have a used 5ft Bush Hog Squealer. I've replaced the blades (all it took was $100, a huge impact wrench, a torch and a 5-ton press!), greased it and topped off the gear box with 80/90w oil. My question is: should I and how do I drain the old oil out of the gear box? I didn't know how much to put in so I filled it pretty much to the top. When I mowed with it some oil came out the top. It looked like there was water in it (funny color, sort of carmel colored) so I wonder if I should completely drain it before refilling?
ps - I'm VERY new to all this so any info/tips are welcomed!!

i have a sq60 bush hog (5 ft.) and the recommended fill line is up to the side plug. when it runs out of that plug that is enough. the top plug is just for filling.

My JD mower had no drain plug so I took the cover off and sucked it out with a borrowed suction thing that looked something like a grease gun. Then I sacrificed about a roll of paper towels and mucked out the bottom till she was dry and clean. Use the best gear lube you can afford, the pressure on that stuff has to be astronomical. I used Amsoil. It called for around a gallon which made it about two thirds full

Most gearboxes have three plugs....a drain on the bottom, a filler plug on top, and a middle plug to set the correct fill level. In short, you drain it, put in the bottom plug, and run oil into the top plug til it runs out the middle one....but filling it up all the way is probably not right.....does Bushog have manulas on-line....I'd check
take Care

Curiously, the gearbox on my JD #9 sickle mower doesn't have a drain plug like you'd expect. To drain the gearbox (this is according to the manual) you remove one of the lower bolts holding the face plate on and the oil runs out the hole.
