Yesterday I saw an implement that looks like a manure spreader. However, it was laid out like this: Tongue, maybe a PTO shaft, then a large hood with beaters and bars(up at the front, behind PTO linkage), and then the bed. I didn't get up close. I was wondering how it worked or what it is. Do the hood and beater bars move along a track towards the back? I really don't know... Just curious. Thanks, Kenneth

well Kenneth I asked your question at the unoffcial allis chalmers site and they said yes AC had a front unloading spreader, never heard of one but thats why I visit these sites.you didn't say how big the box was or if it was on running gears.
if you find out more about it let me know, would like to see one work, don't sound like a good idea to me. Pappy

Back in the fifties, I believe, or forties, or sixties, there was a reverse type manure spreader made by "Galloway", at least it said Galloway on the sides. The beater configuration must have spread the manure sort of straight down, maybe widening the "swath" out to a 6-8 foot width. The apron chain was a common type that brought the load forward to the beaters. Uh, yes, the beaters were covered over at the top and front.

Ok, OBVIUOSLY the AC spreader had to discharge to the side, not out the front? Did the beaters auger over to a side beater, or how? Never seen one of these.

If my menory hasn't left me too far, I believe Allis Chalmers made a manure speader like that. the conveyor chain moved the manure to the front of spreader and spread . Their thoughts were to keep weight on tractor when spreader got almost MT. I may be wrong, has happened before

have you ever seen a silage wagon? they have beaters in the front and the drag chains pull the silage to the front of the wagon, and a chute to load a blower or bagger. We put up 210 tons in a silo and bag 200 tons each year. Its a great way to feed cattle, but in my part of the country most silos have set empty for 20 years.Well thats my guess without seeing it up close. Pappy
