I have been looking for a corn picker,Well I have found one .This fellow down the road has a john deer one row pull type corn picker .It was his dad's and he thinks it is a model number,18 but he is not for sure.Is this right did john deer make a model 18?
The fellow that has it says that it was a real good picker in its day .Does any one have the same felling. Some one else told me that a pull type JD picker is rare. Some of the old farmers that I have talk to about it say that they have never seen one.
Let tell you more about this picker it was been in a shed for the past 20yr (never moved from that spot).I went this weekend and looked at it and put a big pipe on the PTO shaft and got it to work it seems that the bearings are not froze up,But it need new v-belt one of the gathering chains is broken(rust into)it need 2 new corn snouts
the end of the PTO shaft is rust up very bad and it need new universals in the PTO shaft and there are no rims on it and the spindle are sitting in the dirt and are froze up.
Now that you know all that is wrong with it is it worth putting time into.
Also he said that I could just have it if I want it.
So I am looking for some opinion on this and if you think it is worth fixing out where can I get some corn snouts at.

Ethan I have a JD 18 picker 1 row pull type. This
type picker was built in the 60s. I have used mine quite alot. While not high capicity it works very well. For the snouts you may cross referance with
the JD 101 they seem very much alike and the 101
were more common. Rims should be no problem just a JD 4 bolt . I would definately get it if you don"t
you will always kick your self. The way you describe this picker I think you can safly say it is a 18. If I can be of further assistance let me
know. Good luck.

Hey, for free, take it. If it doesn't work out, you're only losing the time it takes to drag it home. I can't remember what shape the snouts are, but they might be the the same as the outer snouts on the 227 and 237 mounted pickers? Worth a look, anyway.
