Is this a quality baler, what years was this model made, and are parts available? Also, would a 30 hp 4wd tractor be enough power for a PTO machine? Thanks, Kenneth

I just bought one this spring, I put up a little over 1000 bales and it hasn't missed a tie yet. I use a MF165 but that's all I have (52 hp). I bought mine for 6 bills.

Hi, I pull a JD337 with a kicker and a 16 ft wagon with a MF135D(38Hp) with no problems. The only reason I use my MF165d (50hp) is that it heavier and doesn't rock back and forth as bad. The 336,337,and 338 probable have a faster stroke and are heavier than a 24T. Many of the knotter parts are the same. You can put a new knotter in a 24T becuase the one I put in my 337 came with directions for a 24T. Bill

I have a 24T baler, they are one of the best square balers ever made. They still use the same knotter on the current production models. You could pull a 24T with a 30HP tractor, but it would be marginal, especially if you have hills and are planning on pulling a wagon behind it. A heavier tractor of 45-50 HP or more would be a better choice.

The 24T is one of the best balers of it's day. The 336, 337, and the 338 balers which are the consecutive replacements for the 24T are not all that much different. The Knotters are to my understanding unchanged in 45 or so years!

As to what it would take to pull one, we used a 28hp JD 420T to pull a 14T AND pull a wagon for a good many years, until my father purchased a 3020.
I would, however also recommend a slightly bigger tractor. 38-40 hp at least.

We still bale with our 24T. Has been a good baler from day one, new from the dealer. A 45 hp. or higher tractor would be better.

It was a good baler in its day. Made 1963-1970 or thereabouts. Most parts still available. 30HP will run it, but I wouldn't pull a wagon behind unless it's a flat field.
