I am getting loose bales & loose tying on this new aquisition-- my first exposure to round bales! Any suggestions? Also, how old is this, how reliable can I expect it to be, & how much is it worth?? Many thanks!!!!!

Lee,
My father-in-law has one and they are good balers. I believe as memory serves me that they are the same as Vermeer 504. They are a lose belt baler. The belts are loose until you get hay in the chamber. Another thing, make sure you have the right belts for it. If they are the generic fit-all belts, they won't work on this baler. If you need some, there is a place in Alabama that deals only in baler belts. They have real good prices and quick service. Can't remeber their name, but they have a internet site.

According to my book, this baler was made from 1976 to 1980. A lot of the MF balers were actually made by Vermeer. I am not familiar with this particular model. Most belt type balers use hydraulic pressure on the tailgate to control the tightness of the bale. Some have a pressure guage and an adjustable valve to increase or decrease the tailgate pressure. I suggest that you contact an MF dealer and order an owner's manual. That would be a good place to start.

my dad has a 450 he got it new about 15 years ago has custom baled with it every year about 1000 to 2500 bales a year it hase been a very low cost unite for good bales first make sure your wind rows are BIG no.2 use a fast ground speed a lot faster then for most other baling and also zig zag over the windrow a little to feed it all the way a cross the face of the bale. on each side ther is a chain with big springs make sure the springs are not busted also ther are bolts in the chain to stop it they MUST be in there and you can tighen the the springs but i will have to get the book from him to look it up give me a call 1-920-446-3296 will tell you over the phone easyer then this spelling if not home leave no. i will call you back i got free long dist.
