Whoda thunk it?! There is a strong possibility we will pull up stakes and move overseas - I shudder to think of the cost of moving the gear OR the horses! Still wrestling but....
selling for sure, an Adams Leaning Wheel Road Grader, model 1C, serial #2992, works like a champ. One of the first out of their Indianapolis works.
Still considering whether to sell: spreader (rubber tires), 2-way sulky plow, High Gear #9 mower, Fresno scraper, wagon with heavy running gear (rubber tires), American seed drill, sulky cultivator (needs pole), walking plow, two sections of spike harrow, disc, short section of culti-packer. (Auction coming up in early April!)
Or have I got an off-the-grid, Y2K compliant, turn-key opportunity for you! 40.81 acres, log house, barn, chicken coop & yard, complete with team of Percheron geldings, implements as mentioned above, 38 +/- laying hens and 2 roosters, bred milk cow (due in early April), year round stream, water catchment system, artesian spring water nearby, (well about to be drilled anyway) at 9,000' elevation with the 14,000' Sangre de Cristo mountains as your view. Solar electricity service with propane range, on-demand water heater and vent-through-the-wall heater in bathroom for EXTRA comfort. Woodstock Soapstone Stove and Peachtree windows ensure complete comfort. The market garden is IN. Getting ready to promote in nation publications but priced at $250,000 now before we go to the hassle of advertising.
A nearby additional, separate, 185 acres available with new, small cabin at 9,800' elevation with Ponderosa, Bristlecone Pine, and Aspen groves for $150,000. (Within howling distance of the country's largest wolf refuge, Mission:Wolf. One of the director's bought one of our geldings and is boarding him onsite with us in exchange for cleaning out the barn!) National Forest CLOSE by. Views stretch for miles and the silence can be deafening!
E-mail if you've interest.

What overseas, pray tell, could possibly entice you to leave such an idyllic, highly sought after piece (and peace) of nature and lifestyle???

Good question, Curt!
The reason is our 2 year-old son. VERY bright and very gregarious. We're 18 miles from town and his peers, the public school system is not likely to do his brightness justice, and home-schooling (the choice of over 10% of this county's families) isn't something we feel equipped for. And a private school means I'm committed to working full-time to pay for THAT, too - maybe even my wife as well.
In order to keep this Colorado dream alive I would have to keep working weekdays - I'm making GOOD money but it keeps me away from home (AND my wife AND my little boy) for 12 hours each day thanks to a beautiful but Loooong commute. That leaves the weekends to work the ranch. You get 7,000 days with your child before they leave - I'm missing a LOT of those already. A generous paycheck doesn't compensate me for what I miss with my son and it means I'm more of a provider than a present father. And I can't say I'm at all comfortable with the core values so prevalent in this society right now.
No regrets - we got to live this dream for several years - were it just the two of us we'd surely be staying. But the reason for our existence has changed thanks to the arrival of a child. We think we've found a situation in Europe that provides a safe environment, GREAT public schooling, a real sense of community and a way for me to work at home to supplement our small farming ventures which we would still practice. It's a beautiful place - just a very different kind of beauty than that of the mountains here.
Does that make any sense, CURT? :)
