The Ford New Holland site has a wide selection of implement manuals. The listing includes the manfacturing dates for each model, which is nice to have when looking at a machine.

According to the book "A Century of FORD and NEW HOLLAND Farm Equipment" The 77 model came out in 1948 and the Super 77 came out in 1953. The Super 77 was powered by a 25 HP 4 cyl. engine or PTO and spit out 12 tons per hour of 16 x 18 inch bales.

The 77 was mfg from 4-1-49 to 10-1-53. I don't have a serial # listing to be exact.

It is possible he bought it new in 57
