I have a chance too buy a large lot of mower parts, cutter bars, pitman arms #4 JD,casted brackets, some old dearborn castings, most are of new old stock of rock gaurds for sickle bar mowers, possible 45-55 year collection, farmall,John Deere just mention a few, painted different colors green ,yellow and red. Some stamped JD with circle around the stamp. There are about 2000...some of them are used but the majority are new,am looking to see if there any call for them, before i buy such a large amount of old parts.

Over on E-Bay, OEM JD parts seem to sell well. If anything has a JD in a circle on it, you'll most likely be able to sell it. I imagine some of the Dearborn parts and IH parts have people looking for them, too. The key is to identify what the parts go to if it isn't obvious by just looking at them.

Paul, I just bought some new gaurds (MF989) for my '39 IH mower (16-A) at the dealer for $5.20 (made in Korea) and one to compare at Fleet Farm for $3.80 (made in China). They are not original but are the modern replacements, and I believe better. If there is a market for older parts of this nature, do the math, and get the word out. Keep in mind that most of these parts are still readily available through the dealer/discount stores. Oits

I didn't realize the price went that low $3.80,well I assume shipping is not included in that price?I think if could find a market for them i might be able to compete on the price.I will need to look further, before i invest any amount of money. Thanks!

$3.81 with tax over the counter here in Wisconsin at Fleet Farm/discount chain store. If I had the opportunity to buy a new original guard (assuming that yours are the older vintage like what I have on the mower now) at a reasonable price, I would opt for the original. The new guards available at the dealer and parts stores are quite different in design, although they are the improved replacement, but since I would like to keep everything original and looking the same, I would prefer the older part. In the area I live in, hardly anybody uses the old sickle bar mowers any more, only fools like me. Since I have this rig and not willing to pay $1800 for a brand X rotary belly mower (about what the tractor is worth), I'll just spend what I have to to keep is running. Otis

Unfortunately, I go through about 3 rock guards & 4 sickle sections cutting 15 acres of alfalfa.... I think I need to set things differently, or do better picking up rocks...

Greetings I think it will be pick and choose. If your lucky you might find some markets via the internet, etc. but you may have to hold on to them for a very long time. And then on the other hand you may get really lucky and sell each one to someone who is ignorant (like my self) for mega-monies.
