How do plant your sunflowers for dove? Do you use a planter, drill or broadcast? Thanks Mark

You can drill them, which would give you better ground shading against weeds, or broadcast them and lightly harrow them in. Judging by how many volunteer sunflowers the birds "planted" in the flowerbeds around the house as they left the birdfeeder this winter, I don't think the derned things are too fussy about their seedbeds and planting methods.

I plant food plots for deer & doves every year by just disking, then spreeding the seed along with some 10-10-10.Then I disk over it once more with the disk blades adjusted stright.I try to do this in June here in NC,but it is not too late.About two weeks before opening day I mow it with a bush hog,and disk some strips through it.
I use a mix of browntop millet, buckwheat,& sunflower seed for my dove fields.

Since nobody else answered yet, I'll toss in my 2 cents, but I am small time.

I planted sunflower (couple hundred feet of row) by disking repeatedly, then cultivating, all with my 8N and 3pt implements. Then I used a little hand-drill ("The Earthway Precision Seeder") and the bean plate to drill the seed in. It's come up and is doing very well...some of the stalks must be 8'.

good luck,
Tom
