I have a OLD 4 gang 16 disc.Don't know what brand. On the first set of gangs behind tractor on the out side off each front gang, disc has 2(cutting discs?).All the other disc blades are round and when I use disc on hard dirt only the 4 cutting blades on ends will cut in ground.why would one use round disc blades over cutting blades or vise verser.Other then cutting in to ground.I would like to replace and have all cutting discs on front of disc. Thanks

Could you explain what a cutting blade is? Do you mean a straight coulter, like a plow or planter would have?

I would think what he's talking about are scallop and finish blades.

Most folks around here run the scallop blades on the front gangs and smooth finish blades on the rear gangs.

The scallop on front will dig in because of the teeth and the smooth finish blades will chop fine cut.
