Subsoiling rolling fields.

I'm considering buying a subsoiler to use in my fields. Will this actually help the growth of my hay crops & pastures, or will just stir up more rocks and not be worth the effort? Also, I'm considering the purchase of a field roller. I've seen two types. The first is the regular field roller to mash rocks, etc. The second is a roller with spikes on the roller to aerate the ground. That seems like a good idea, but would the spikes hold up in ground that has quite a bit of rock in it? Would the roller with spikes possibly be a better implement to use to improve my pastures & hayfields? I'd appreciate you opinions. Thanks.

Yeah the aerater would do better than a plain roller in hay grounds . If you can aerate at least 6" depth the grasses will do fine.

About every 2 years I run a scarifier bar with the shanks on 2' centers through mine at about 18-24" deep and it restarts the bermuda and clovers. It makes the ground hold water better and longer too in the dry spells.

If I use a subsoiler here it takes alot of smoothing to get the ground back smooth enough to run on.

I use a 2 blade 3pth pan plow to sub soil, get great results, although, releveling out after turning makes for ruff ride.
