I have a grain drill that is patent dated 1887/1898. Would like to know more about it's history etc.
The information that is on it is:
Superior Double Force Feed Grain Drill.

Manufactured by: American Seeding Machine Company, Superior Division, Springfield, Ohio

There is a number on it's tool box that is: B-295

It is made of all wood, including the wooden wheels. It has been stored in a barn for the last 60 or more years. Appears to be in very good, almost original condition.

Can anyone clue me in on this grain drill? It was originally purchased for use on the existing farm that it is housed at. Three generations ago. It obviously was never used much. It was discovered while cleaning out one of the barns. The ninty year old resident of the farm will soon be moving. Is this something worth hanging on to? Any info I can get would be appreciated.

Sounds like something to preserve and keep as long as you got somewhere to keep it. I think they're pretty, but then people say I've got a warped mind! It would make a good yard ornament if the wood could be treated with a preservative that wouldn't alter it's looks to much. Think of it as a center-piece in a flower-bed. Or maybe hooked behind one of my old tractors? Good luck.
