I have a two wheel windrow turner and was wondering if this would be ok to rake about 7 or eight acres of hay into windrows for baling after I cut it with a sickle,or should I be looking for a multi wheel rake? Also ... how should this be set up on the tractor? Should the wheels be standing straight up and down or angled fore or back? How heavy should they ride on the ground?

Thanks in advance

Paul was right but you might want to consider an old steel wheel side delivery. Around here they are a dime-a-dozen. I've got two that I've hitched in tandem. They do a good job but you have to drive slow. I paid $5 for one at auction and $11 for the other, The $5 one was a New Idea which was a real nice because it also has a tedder setting. I still have them and will keep them although I've since acquired a Gehl 8 wheel V-rake. This also does the job but requires a tractor with Catagory II three point hitch (I'm going to try to convert it with a wheel cart so I can pull it with my JD A or my MF 135). These have to be operated at a faster speed. I have not decided which shatters more leaves.

I don't know, but no one else answered you....

Around 'here' everyone uses roll-a-bar type rakes, the wheel rakes are far less common. If your windrow turner is just 2 wheels that act like a typical 4 wheel rake, then it will work, but you will be spending twice as long raking. You will lose a bit more hay, and if it is alfalfa you will probably beat a few more leaves off of it. But not much more.

I'll put it this way - if the turner is what I think it is, it will work for you, but by next year you will probably be looking for a bigger rake. :) Look in fall, that is when they are cheaper.
