What is the latest I can wait to plant corn for a deer and turkey food plot? I live in Illinois. Thanks Mark

In my area, southeastern Pennsylvania, the rule of thumb is for every day after June 1st that you plant you lose a bushel of corn per acre. i.e. if you planted today your harvest would be 11 bushels per acre less than if you planted earlier. On the other hand if it is a food plot your not as worried about maximizing you harvest

Here in southern Minnesota I've planted as late as June 6th for harvest. It was 95 day maturity. Probably starting to push the limit this next week, you really start getting low yields, immature corn, & hit weather patterns that do not produce corn.

On the other hand, if the acre of ground is just sitting there, plant any time & see what happens. :)
