I bought a'50 Ford 8N that came with a Woods RM-59 3-blade finish mower. It works great, but I can't remove the old blades for replacement. Looking at the bottom of the mower (tipped up on it's front side), the blades rotate clockwise. Which way do I turn the center-bolts? I've air-hammered them both ways, no luck. I can heat 'em and soak 'em, but I don't want to go the wrong way...

Also, there are no belt guards on this mower. The big pully housing is on, but were there ever any guards on the belt? What years were the RM-59's built anyway?

Paul, I have to use a 6' piece of 1 1/2" pipe that I flattened on one end with a sledge to fit over the blade to hold it. I then use a 6 point impact socket on a 3' breaker bar(sometimes with a cheater pipe) to break the bolts loose. I also keep the bolt threads well greased. Small trees, hardwood branches, gopher mounds and things like that can really tighten up those bolts. Duey

Threads are left handed or backwards.
Use a 6 point socket with a good impact wrench and they should come apart.
I bought my RM 59 back in the later 70s.
Mine came with shields that covered the belt.
Mine has the 3 pt. hookup. The more solid objects you hit with the blades the tighter the bolt gets.

Thanks. I'll go in the correct direction. Any idea where or who might sell replacement belt covers? Or should I just fabricate my own?

your local Woods deal would be able to order a set for you.

Hope this helps!

Question? Even though the bolts are lefthanded, could you still use the RM59Mower on a farmall cub that spins the other way, or will you have trouble with the blades comming loose? I have switched the blades but haven`t tried it yet. Thanks ED.
