Two Baler Questions

Hey all: Got a MF 10 baler, but the questions might be universal.

1) Picked up a piece of rebar(!) while baling yesterday eve, which of course got caught 1/2 way in the plunger. Fortunately the shear bolt on the flywheel did its job, so no permanent damage. Question: can I replace the shear bolt with a grade 2 bolt of the same size? My local MF dealer is supremely slow and disorganized when it comes to parts, and I'd rather not deal with them at all if possible. If that doesn't work, any other suggestions that will work?

2) All of a sudden, the needles and knotters activate on *every* stroke of the plunger...makes for really short bales! Can't seem to find an obvious problem (like something broke), so does anybody have any suggestions where to look?

thanks,
Tom

Often times shear bolts are the same size between manufacturers. If you know the size try getting them from a different dealer if you don't like your local MF dealer.

if you use regular bolts as shear pins over time you will cause wear in the bushing in the fly wheel. the shear bolts from MF are bigger around, and the dealer should have in inventory, cost about a buck each. the star shaped wheel behind the knotter stack will adjust the length of the bale, sounds like it has slipped.hope this helps, happy baling.
