Hi gang,

I have an old JD two bottom plow on steel with the pull rope to raise and lower the bottoms. Recently, it has started clicking loudly and raising and lowering all on its own. How do I go about repairing the mechanism?

Take apart the clutch and clean it out. It may have some mud and or gease that makes it have a mind of its own. Drew s/w WI

Hi:
I have a similar plow & I would like to know what model this John Deere plow is?
Also, can you suggest where I could find a rear wheel. Please e-mail me directly at: [email protected]
Thank you,
DD

Jon, The lift clutch on the old plows is pretty simple but kind of finicky when it comes to dirt and lack of lubrication. There are two types, the open clutch mostly before 1940, and the enclosed clutch after that. Take a couple hours and carefully take it apart and clean it, look for a flat spot on the rollers and broken hooks on the springs, fix or replace what looks to be worn/broken then reassemble with a bit of lube and you should be back in business. Sounds simple but there a few spots where you will be helped with an owners manual or parts book exploded view. If you have the enclosed clutch, there is an adjustment bolt on the housing that connects to a spring inside, never turn this bolt counter-clockwise unless you plan to take it apart because the spring inside will probably un-hook. If you run into trouble post back or e-mail me and get help. Good luck. Bob
