My Bush Hog 3008 brush hog has a slip clutch. It's been stored for the winter (6 months). I've been told that before use in the spring you should loosen the nuts on the springs of the slip clutch and "burn off" the slip clutch, and then retighten the nuts to specs. Does anyone else do this or do you just run em' as they are? Should I do this? Thanks.

Slip your clutch if it has been exposed to moisture, such as setting outside in the rain. The clutch facings attract moisture like a magnet and the metal fibers in the disc rust to the clutch drive facings sticking the clutch.

You don't have to "burn" it, just make sure it isn't stuck. If it slips any at all, it's enough to be safe. Robert

Yes, you should do it. If you don't, the slip clutch won't (slip, that is) and you take a chance of breaking something if you fetch a stump or something else that stops the blade suddenly. If you're lucky, it'll be a u-joint on the driveshaft. If you're like me, it'll be something inside the transmission on the PTO on the tractor...
