Kingcutter disc harrows

After having looked for a year in my area, I finally found a 6' set of discs, unfortunately, they are the light Kingcutters. I've looked for drag or 3pth ones, to no avail. I'm going to be using these for 1-2 acres a year, after plowing, before cultivating/spike harrowing, to help cut up the lumps. These aren't my first choice, but right now they look like my only choice. The price is good compared to anything else I've heard of...(about 175 US, if my conversion is right) for an almost new set, and I think I can get that knocked down. Any comments?

Also, how available would the replacement parts, etc, be for these discs?

TSC stores (Tractor Supply Company) sells Kingcutter products, and parts are available there, as well. (This is only useful, of course, if you have TSC stores in your area.)

Kingcutter makes a light disk with angle iron frame; also make heavy duty model with much heavier, tubular steel frame.

Mark, your conversion looks a little light. If new, should run about $350 US. This disc will work well. Don't put too much weight on it because your 3 point has to lift it. Run at a higher speed and it will work well on plowed ground.

I think you will be o.k. with the King Kutter disc. If you want to cut up lumps, plain disc blades do the best job.or the next best is notched in the front and plain in the back. Im not sure about parts for it but you can get disc blades lots of places. The King Kutter disc has cast iron bearings with a grease fittings, as long as you grease it, these bearings will last a long, long time. If the disc is to light to go in the ground put big old stone or 2 on it for weight.

These have the notched discs on the front. I've never used notched ones before, what's supposed to be the advantage to them? I'm going to weld a frame on top for a couple of boxes to sit in for the 'stones', I have a lot of them around here (small fist sized ones) that I will be able to pick while discing.

The notched cut better. By having the notch they first of all have more weight per square inch to push into the ground and the notches capture and slice a clod rather than pushing it sideways as the solid disks do. On the other hand the solid disks finish smoother that the notched. That is why you see the setup that you have notched in the front and smooth in the rear. When I am trying to cut land the first couple of times I shorten the toplink thus putting as much of the disk's weight on the front notched disks and once it is loose I lengthen the toplink to let the rear disks do more for the smoothing action.
