My bush hog, a 6' Huskee, has 1/2 inch steel blades that have been abused on rocks, and dirt. How sharp should they be? I think they should have a little edge on them, but without, they still cut ok as blunt as they are. Any ideas?

Thanks, Erin

I like to keep my blades fairly sharp. They don't have to be sharp like a lawnmower.

I sharpen mine when the grass looks more smashed than cut.

Gotta question here.... Have a unknown off brand "brushog" that my brother-in-law gave me. The blades have been replaced with an unknown brand of blade. They are quite new, in fact, I suspect the way the front and rear of the cover are banged up, that they were never used. Straightened the blades, cut off about 3/4" off the ends, and they fit and work OK. They will only fit one way, due the the way they are bent to dip below the center disc. What has me scratching my head is that the beveled cutting edge is cut off the lower side of the blade, not off the top as I have seen in virtually every other blade. Any guess as to what's going on?
