I am looking to purchase a 24T baler and have found one for 900.00 is this a good price and what should I look for(problems, etc.)

We need information on where the timing mark is on a 2-cylinder industial wisconson engine. This is on a JD 24T square baler.

If the knotters aren't worn out and if the sheet metal is straight that would be within the range I'd expect it to go for. Probably be more at a dealer.

A couple years ago this spring I watched some guy at an auction pay $900 for a 14T that looked like it had been in a demo derby. On the other hand, if an individual is selling it in the fall or the winter you'd be surprised how low the price sometimes goes.

RGibbs: The price seems more than reasonable IF the baler is working. You can check the baler by: 1.) Turn the baler over by hand, by turning the flywheel. If it rotates and the pickup fingers, the auger, and the "forks" which pysh the hay into the bale chamber move, then... 2.) Trip the knotters. Have someone else turn the flywheel while you watch the knotters and the needles to see if they also turn/move correctly. the needles should rise from the "at rest" position and carry twine to the knotters, which should then rotate and tie a knot. 3.) If the bale chamber has old hay in it that is rotted, figure it hasn't baled recently and most grease fittings will be dry. Also, the bale chamber could have considerable rust. You want to see what it looks like, so it might be a good idea to get any old hay out of the baler and see. 4.) If possible, hook it up to a tractor and at low throttle, put power to it and see if it operates. Be sure to do steps 1 & 2 first. 5.) Check for missing teeth on the hay pickup. They are cheep to buy, but tedious to replace. You can also look at condition of the tires, belts, chains, and shields. 6. Ask to see the OWNERS MANUAL for the baler!
A 24t will bale a lot of hay. They are essentially the same baler as is made today, but with less sheet metal shields and a few less "goodies". The Knotters are exactly the same as new. Good luck

Depends largely on the area you live in. I live in the S.E. and implements seem to be much higher here than in the mid-west. I bought a 24t last year and paid 1200 for it, the guy was asking 1500 for it and it needed some work done to it. Here where I live 900 is a good buy if it is in decent shape.
