Have John Deeere post hole digger, I have broken a universal joint, the universal joint is different from others I have seen, in that it uses no caps or locking snap rings, appears to be pressed in pto yokes. Really need to find replacement universal joint. All help appreciated.

Charles, can`t offer any knowledgeable insight on this particular joint, but maybe a general tip. Around here, upstate NY, we have a business called Universal Joint Sales, they repair and rebuild just about any kind of driveshaft known to mankind. It`s usually cheaper and easier to go to them than it is to buy the parts and do the work yourself. Must be the volume. There is probably a driveline rebuilder near you who could solve your problems. Good Luck

Some of those old units had a joint assembly where the two yokes and joint were factory assembled and the cross assembly cannot be replaced seperately.
Usually name (Neapo, Blood, Cross, Spicer, etc) is stamped or cast in the cross and assembly can be bought or replaced with repairable type from Napa or parts house with pto parts.

Ran into one like that last week. Neighbor smarter than me found that the snap rings were on the inside and that it was like a normal universal joint. Look just inside the yoke and see if you have the snap ring there. If so remove it and press the caps out as you normally do. This was on a NH 55 hay rake

Checked that but no luck, looks like 1/2 dia. studes were pressed into pto yokes then into body of universal joint.

Never heard of one like that either. Dig close because we looked and looked before we found the inside one. Looked like the shoulder on the casting. To get better help here you might want to list the what it came from. That will help some one remember.
