Ijust bought a used 3 pt 50 gal. boom sprayer.I want to do some planting this season again, but I just do not have time for the weeds.I will probably plant 1/4 acre of sweet corn and maybe some field corn and various grains.Would total vegatation killer be the way to go? I do have poison ivy growing in other locations in the field. Thanks for any advise

If the area is sod or just sod/weeds/small brush type of thing I would use Roundup on it before plowing. Roundup will kill anything green and growing and it is a herbicide anyone can buy. Once you plant, you'll have problems with annual weeds. I use 2,4-D on any corn crop for broad leaf weeds but I'm not sure if specifically approved for sweet corn. Unless you are a cerfifed user of pesticides, the list availble is very short. 2,4-D is unrestricted (at least in NY) and is very inexpensive. It needs to be applied when corn is very small or it will burn the leaves. If you're in a farming area it may be possible to hire someone to spray for you who is certified with any herbicide.
