A fellow at work said he had a baler that he baled with last year, worked fine but wants to get rid of it. I went to see it ... he hooked on an eighty horse tractor ... pulled it out (It had a flat tire) and slammed the pto in gear. It quickly broke a pto yoke and cross bearing. After that he turned it over using a bar and everything was freed up. He gave me the baler. Now I need to get it going ... knotters seem good, no rust clean and free, I think the knives and shear should be sharpened ... any other hints for me

Kevin, get a owners manual, your MF dealer have one should mine keeps them in stock. the twine holders need replaced about every 10,000 bales. It has a little roller that works the knife-stripper arm, if that little roller has any flat spots in it change them, theres one on each knotter. with a little maint. these are one of the best balers you can buy. I've used mine for years with no trouble whatsoever. The bolts that hold the knife an can be a pain to get out. I use a angle grinder and just leave it bolted in place. Pto parts can be pick up at TSC pretty cheap. Good Luck jeffw

Kevin, I would make sure the slides are free of rust before I started baling with it. We had a MF12 catch fire because of this. Also make sure you have spare springs for the knotters. As I recall there are a few different ones that, when broken, will cause you trouble. The timing is also critical on these machines as are the hay dogs. All in all, the MF12 was a pretty good baler though.

I have an old JD baler and last year I removed the knives from the plunger and sharpened them and that really made a difference. Make sure the twine knives on the knotters are sharp too. Do you have a shop close by that sells truck driveline conponents? That is the best place to get PTO u-joint stuff. Good luck.
