ANNYONE HAD OR HAVE A 816 I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THE PROBLEM I AM HAVING IS ISOLATED OR COMMON MY MOWER WILL RUN ABOUT 4 HOURS AND THEN BREAK THE SICKLE BAR OFF WHERE IT ATTACHES TO THE DRIVE THIS IS A REAL PAIN AS I SPEND MORE TIME WORKING ON IT THAN MOWING . I WOULD REPLACE IT BUT CANNOT AFFORD TO. THANKS MIKE

I am familiar with your problem. 1 probable cause (wet grass) let the dew dry off
2 (possibly) loose linkage somewhere between the pto shaft and the pitman head causing hammering effect on the pitman head. To check for this rotate the pto cw the ccw in quick motions and you will quickly see where the slack is.
3 (most common cause) the blades and guards have a general life of about 100 acres, of hay before needing to be replaced. the standard I am using is a 9 foot sickle mower. after 100 acres the knifes and guards should be removed. and then replace with everything new, guards, wear plates and sickle. You can repare the sicke with new brads, knives using a hammer and anvil. this system has served me well for 45 years.

Hi, Had the same problem on a JD last year due to the grass being damp do to all the rain and jaming up the blade and breaking off the end. Replaced blades and guides, no help. Found out the the best thing I could do was to clean out the jamed up grass as need to keep it from jaming. Bill

Not farmiliar with your machine, but we had the same problem with our JD. Something is loose in the drive mechanism. Sickle drives can be described as violent. If something is loose(going up and down, or overriding the limit) it broke the sickle(brand new). Now, when we replace the sickle, we put on a new arm, and new bolts. Talk to you're dealer. Like I said, mine is JD.
