A real manly man's subsoiler would be like the one I read about in a Caterpillar book--a CAT D11 (770 HP) with an 11 ft. single shank ripper to bust up California hardpan. The book stated that the D11 struggled with the load!

Kinda like the difference between a disk or disk harrow! :)

A sub-soiler goes below the hardpan & breaks it up. Can be a ripper too.

Deep tillage could be running your equipment deeper than it usually does, but generally would be a subsoiler or ripper. They go by brand name too, 'went out & DMI'ed the 40...' some of those rigs have a lot of disk, cultivator, and deep points all in one machine.

I find them listed separately at implement sites. I see more stuff on the "tillage" equipment.

I just need a ripper for a 70hp tractor.
