I also own some Root equipment. I have started a Yahoo group dedicated to Root. There are pdf files of brochures, owners manuals and other documents pertaining to the company.

Frank,

I am familiar with Root Mfg. Co. as are many people in this area. I worked one season for Root in 1960, helping manufacture the clutch/drive assembly for the Root and Root manufactured Fairbanks-Morse machines. You are correct in most of your facts with the exception that "Pop Root" as the Sr. Mr. Root was known around here actually started the company in Quapaw, Oklahoma initially making war related materials. The firm was later relocated to Baxter Springs, Ks., where most of the mowers, tractors, saws, etc were produced. As I grew up in Quapaw, I knew most of the Root family. In fact a grandson who was to be heil apparent still lives in Quapaw. "Skip" has been a friend of mine for many, maany years. Although long gone, the site still remains, tho mostly as a vacant slab of concrete that was the facilitiy's floor. If you wish to contact me feel free to do so, else I'll pass this along as additional info for your site. I myself would like to locate one of their wheeled circular saws used for clearing and cutting wood.

G-Luck

I've got a power duster run by a small aircooled engine that is mounted on a 3-pt frame. My grandfather bought it back in the 40's and used it on a 9N; it is also a ROOT, but other than that I can't help you. Maybe someone else will have some info.
