I have a Ford 3600 and have been offered a IH 4 row model 87 3 point hookup planter for $500. I am curious as to age of this implement, whether it will work well with my tractor, whether it is reliable, are parts available, etc. Also, I intend to use it in Texas for 5-10 acres for oats and similar light use. Would appreciate any thoughts or comments.

I read that the 87 was some kind of special "blackland" planter probaly for swampy soils. I think that it was made in the 70's. IH made very good planters and most parts are still available. That planter is probaly as big as you ever want to put on the 3600. You can't plant oats with it though. Oats are planted by drills or broadcasted. That planter is a bit newer and more expensive than necesary for 5-10 acres.
