Just bought a NI 12A manure spreader for $25.00. It has all the original paint and stenciling, extension levers, fair tires, and a broken apron chain (nothing mangled, just parted the links). I know these were popular at one time. How long were they made, and does anyone have any tips or tricks for using one? Thanks in advance, Karl.

NI made some very good manure spreaders. I have a horsedrawn one I use all the time. You should be able to buy new apron links with no problem. With a ground driven spreader you need to have tires that will grip the gound, especially if its muddy or slipery from snow. Hopefully you don't have an odd sized tire that costs a fortune to replace. Around here small manure spreaders in good shape go for several hundred dollars.

If you do get new ag type tires for it, remember they go on backwards compared to your tractor tires. that is so they will grip the ground and give you the best apron and beater motion. I have had mine slip the other direction in snow (on when bought spreader) and when reversed no further problem. Good luck, Tom-Pa
