Bought a 24t and plan to restore it. Where do I start?

After you get your manuals, I suggest removing any hay left in it, and any twine left in the box, then giving it a good cleaning, maybe with a hot water pressure washer. That will allow you to more easily see potential problems. First thing I'd do is make sure your plunger-to-needle carriage safety stop mechanism works properly, and that your slip clutch is not rusted fast. That way, should it go out of time when you're trying to make it run, you'll have less of a chance of wrecking some expensive parts.

I guess where you start depends on the condition. If the baler works then maybe all you need is a new coat of paint. Baling will shine up all the inside parts.

Go to your John Deere dealer and get the operator's and parts manuals-OME43103 and PC997, they can order them for you and get them in a few days for a nominal price. In time you'll agree that's where to start.
