Is the landscape rake the right implement to pick up rocks of various sizes out of a field? Do you keep the tines in close or space 'em out?
thanks,
Dave

Landscape rakes will 'tickle' the rocks up and windrow them to one side. How big a rock the rake can handle depends on the size of the rake and the size of the tractor and whether or not it has downpressure on the three point. I have a 6' rake on a JD 750 compact diesel, and it will rake up anything up to about canteloupe size pretty reliably, and hop over anything larger.

It's not the best possible tool for the job, but it's a pretty fair compromise, and beats the heck out of doing it with a hand rake. Down side is, you STILL have to bend over, pick up the rocks, and toss them into something.

They make purpose-built rock pickers that load them into a hopper without you ever getting off the tractor, but they are SERIOUSLY expensive.

You might want to look into renting one if they are available in your area.
