Wanted to thank tom for the reply to my earlier post about the foley belsaw...i went ahead and bought it. The price looked good compared to others i have seen advertised and it looked to be in good shape. Hasnt been run since the blade was last hammered, and the blade looks fresh and has been kept indoors. I do think my tractor is a bit small for it but that is the next step.

I have wanted a sawmill for a long time, and the bandsaws, to me, just seem way too complicated for what they do, it will be in pieces when I get it on Saturday and there is still lots of snow on the ground, but look for pictures in a couple of months!

Thanks again

Kim

Kim if you have any questions about your mill maybe I can help. I have been a saw filer for about 30 years. One thing to find out from the get go is what rpm your saw was hammered to. It will have to be pretty close to what ever your tractor is going to turn the blade. I have seen a lot of these mills and when they are set up correctly they will make good lumber. When you are setting up your mill remember LEVEL, STRAIGHT, and PLUMB. Good luck

Congrats on your purchase! Built mine from scratch, about fifteen years ago, have used it a lot by times, now, usualy have lumber to do whatever I want, plan on building a shop this summer, have a lot of the material sawn. Originaly powered by an IH 806, now have a MM GVI, propane unit, modified from a tractor, realy nice power. Have adequate timber for my own use, and on into the future, if taken care of, have even been accused of being a "Tree Hugger", because I wouldn't sell to the commercial boys, Could have, but then the money would be gone, like the timber, and I wouldn't have the fun, or the lumber!! Oh well... can't win em all! Feel free to e mail me, have quite a few pics, and a lot more advice, ";^) [most of it bad] Have fun, REL
