Mike: I have used a 56 alot they are good old balers . the biggest problem is parts that baler was early 1960's. Also if you are buying check the chamber, knotters, plunger and needles very carefully being that older they are usally shot.

I'm familiar with the 47, and I can't say any thing good about it, lots of problems.

I've heard from a lot of sources the 45's are not good balers. I have a 46 that is a very good baler. I've never heard of a 56 so I can't comment.

If you do not mind a guess, I would say that a #56 would be the heavy duty version of the #46. I have never seen a #56, but I have seen a #55 which was the larger, heavier version of the infamous #45. Just a guess. Ask one of the experts on the IHC forum. JD70jim
