Saw an ad in my locacal paper for a JD 216 PTO Baler for 2000 dollars. Is this a good baler to tow behind a IH H? I haven't seen it yet but it seems kind of high priced. What might be a ballpark offe

If you are on level ground and don't have big windrows it could work. That baler is to heavy for an H and you will get pushed around on hills.
I used my H with a massey baler this summer while other tractor was down 0 fun. These old girls need the little small balers built about the same time. One with it's own engine works best, on pto problems the tractor just pulls and you don't have the extra load of turning the baler. The New Holland 66 or JD 14 both can be found with engines for around $500. Hope this helps

Don't know much about prices for old balers. However, I think an IH H is too light and not enough power for the PTO. The baler would jerk the tractor around and you wouldn't be able to bale much of a windrow. We tried to bale with a IH 240 (28 pto hp) and 347 JD baler but all it did was jerk the 240 around out in the field. This is just my opinion.

It weighs 4055 lbs., about a thousand pounds heaver then a 24 or a 224. Might be a hevey duty baler.

If you're going to spend that kind of money, look for a 336.
