Horse drawn planter most common was 999, with older ones being 99 or 9, 290 was tractor two row wile 490 was 4 row, also 450 was tractor as well as 494 or 495 and all could have been had for check wire

Hard to say without a picture. My father-in-law has a JD #292 (i think thats its number) that is complete except for the check wire. We used to have a 4 row #494 (or #492, can't remember for sure now), it had the check wire and stuff for a short time (long story). Don't think JD made many different models of these so might be one of these.
