I have located a 25-B JD 2 row planter. When did they make these planters? What is it worth now? It is in good condition and still has the markers. Bean and corn plates included? Thanks for the quick help.

They were made beetween 1960-1967. More that 4,000 were made for each year of production. So probaly around 30,000 were made. They were designed to plant corn and cotton. They had a option of a 1 3/4" or 2 1/4" toolbar. In good condition it should bring at least $300-$400 probaly more. I saw a nice 290 that brung $500 a year ago. 2-rows are back in demand here in Ohio for sweetcorn so the price is high. If you are lucky there are plates with it. New ones cost around $30 each at my local dealer. Go to local farm sales and buy a pile of plates for a couple bucks. I was fortunate enough when I bought my 494A 4-row I had 21 sets of plates hidden in the fertilizer bins at a auction in August all in good shape for $25. Yeah, it doesn't seem right when 4 rows sell for much less than 2-rows. Even if you buy some plates that don't fit JD or that model if the price is right sell them to somebody else who needs them. I missed out on saturday when the auctioneer held up 3 good sets and they sold for $5. Good Luck.

Mr. Farley, Thanks for the quick reply. I bought the planter for $295 and it has 3 sets of plates in it. Come to find out my dad and grandad had the same planter and farmed with it before I was born. Thanks again.

Glad to hear it! Sounds like you did pretty good on the price. The one I told you about for $500 wasn't a 3 point as I think I forgot to mention so the trip planters almost never bring as much. One thing I do like about trip-type 2-rows is that you can use it with just about any tractor with a drawbar that is above about 20 horse I figure. Not all of my tractors have the luxury of 3 pt. Good Luck and happy planting!
