I want to spray Roundup on about 2 acres to kill off weeds grass etc before planting pumpkins. any good ideas for what type of sprayer I should look for? It won't get used much so I would like it to be cheap, like me. Thanks for any thoughts.

I've been spraying RoundUp for years through a 15 gal. ATV type 12 volt sprayer. They can be found in any Farm Supply Store. Plastic Tanks and I have had no problem with the pump, but I do clean it after use. These can be mounted on an ATV, lawn tractor or anything with a 12 volt system. It does a great job with the boom attachment and is easy to see where you have sprayed and have not by the tire marks. I also use it a whole bunch around the farm buildings with the wand handle to keep from trimming with a mower or string trimmer. Well worth my initial investment and I strongly recommend.

Roundup is incompatible with plain carbon steel and galvanized metal. Your sprayer should have a plastic or stainless tank, and the pump should be Roundup compatible as well.

Roundup is corrosive... so be sure to clean whatever you use thoroughly.

Thanks for all the advice, Murray asked what else I would use to keep the weeds down during the growing season, I don't have a plan yet, possibly cultivate but that won't work for long when the pumpkin vines start spreading, any suggestions? Bob

I've cultivated, then mulched around the hills with old straw before the vines start running. Not 100% effective, but it does keep the annual grasses down; plus, as it decomposes, the straw will make your ground that much better for next year. However, if you don't have your own source of straw, that may be an expensive route. Seems I've always got some straw around that got rained on too much and went dirty on me.
