I have led a sheltered life I guess. What does an accumulator on a square baler do?

What Bill said. The attachment groups the bales in 8-10, depending on the model or bale size. They are then loaded and unloaded with a front loader. Some use a skid steer and load box type trailors. I use a bale wagon and there is an attachment to take bales off one stack at a time. As luck would have itone is not made for my model.
With scarce labor now days the devices are more and more popular.

Just what it says--accumulates 8? or so bales after they've been tied before dropping them all on the ground instead of dropping them one at a time. Then the 8 bales can be picked up by a tractor with a loader and special grapple hooks and placed on a wagon or truck. Or the bales could be loaded by hand with less walking and less getting on and off the tractor if its a one man operation. Hope this helps. I square bale some but don't have an accumulator.
