Anyone had any experience with a 3 pt. mounted, PTO drive hyd. log splitter? I am considering going this route. Any advantages, disadvantages etc. Thanks!

I have one. I like it fine, good power, cycle times could be a tad faster.

Advantages: One less engine to service, can adjust operating height with 3 point hitch, lots of power, tractor sips fuel out of a teacup (compact diesel).

Disadvantages: Ties up tractor, PITA to transport over any distance (top speed on tractor is about 11 MPH), needs a jig to sit on when not in use, or it's a PITA to hook up, would be a fuel hog on a gas tractor.

Which companies offer a PTO driven hydraulic wood spliter? What do they cost approximately? I have an 8N Ford Tractor, and it appears companies do not make a diverter valve for its hydraulic system. Therefore, it appears I need to go the PTO driven hydraulic pump approach.

I used a gravity type log splitter in Minnesota last year and would like to purchase one. It was a simple long piece of iron with a base and all you had to do was drop a weighted wedge upon the log. The wedge was shaped like a top and probable weighed about 3-5 pounds.
Where could I find one?

Timber Wolf makes a good one for around $1800 or heavy duty for $2300 or so. Works great
