recently bought a barn with an old trailer thats been sitting. The tires and rims are 480-8 that are dryrotted. these are high speed road tires that i dont need. i want larger tires and rims for general hauling around the farm. They are four hole rims. Will a four hole 14" car rim and tire fit these hubs, there seems to be plenty of clearance to accomodate larger tires????? ???/

The trailer hub is likely larger than the centre hole in the car rims. You can buy larger trailer rims.Try www.princessauto.com.

The largest 4 on 4 rim Princess Auto has listed is a 13 X 4.5 part #2020018. I was looking at the catologue of the people who supply Princess Auto. OEM pricing is a little better ;-)

What you most likely have are 4 on 4" bolt circle hubs, don't know if there are 14" rims with that pattern. The largest my book shows is a 13 x 4.5 rim for a trailer application. HTH

It would be wise to assume that the 13" tires will handle all the weight that the axles can handle. Most of us judge the loading of a trailer by looking at the tires. These are most likely low weight rated axles.

The capacity of the tire will probably exceed the axle rating. The 13 X 4.5, 4 bolt on 4" centre, wheel is rated for 1100lbs. It would be a good idea to check the VIN plate and determine axle capacity. However I would recommend the larger tires as there is less wear on bearings due to larger diameter, slower running speed.
