i,m looking at a very used 15' woods batwing cutter, spindles are loose in the gearboxes. Do any of you fellows have experence in rebuilding these? where is the best place to get parts? I'm not afraid of rebuilding, just don't want a money pit.

RUN the other way! Buy something with sound gearboxes; that needs welding, if you want to tinker. Bush Hog brand has great parts support with better gearbox design than Woods, and parts are substantially cheaper.

rhud--I've got a 214 Woods rotary cutter. What Ive learned from it that the oil seal in the bottom of the gearbox will have a hard time staying in, always coming out. SOooo, I just use hi-temp gun greese in the gearbox, seems to work fine. As far as the spindles being loose, could be bearings going out or the castings (gearbox) being wore. Unless you can get it for a song, I suggest going to a different make because parts could be very pricie!! My thoughts luckydog
