Gareth, I had the same problem with a John Deere trailer plow trying to turn some pasture sod. The plow was in pretty good shape and adjusted correctly but it still wanted to ride on top of the ground. I heated the points and tiped them down a little with a big shop hammer. After that it went in the ground just like it was suppose to and stayed there. All adjustments and settings have to be correct also, but even then it is some times hard to get a plow to go in hard ground if the points are to flat. Hope this helps. Snuffy

Set it the landing position to make a strike up this spring. Or try it for moving snow.

Is the plow you have a high or low speed plow, high speed would be for a tractor, low speed would be horse drawn. If it is a slow low speed it may not dig in properly, also not only do you have to lower the plow to the ground but you must also pitch the front end down, so the share can cut in.

Trailer plow, or 3-point?

1. Worn out plow share - get new one(s).

2. Dry hard clay soil - put a rock or weight on the plow, but nothing helps like an inch of rain.

3. If this is a new setup, you need to level the plow proerly, getting all the angles set right (left/right, fore/aft). Find a manual, or look through the archives here, or maybe someone will go through it again if you state your type of plow & tractor.

Tractor mounted plow? Either the plow is not set correctly, or the point is worn off.
